Accessories

Handbags

Accessories are among the most important elements of any fashion collection, completing and accentuating one’s image, adding a stylish zest to it and putting the final touch of elegancy. They brighten up any clothes and can change your appearance completely. Besides, fashionable accessories are very practical: by adding something new to the old familiar or perhaps boring compositions you can completely change your mood and the style of your clothes.

The trends of the last season, like the entire fashion industry of the past few years, are eclectic. Three main trends which at first glance seem to be differently directed, form the basis of most of fashion ensembles.

  1. The first trend is retro glamour, which remains in vogue, but now it draws inspiration not just from the images of the romantic young ladies in lace from the Art Nouveau period, but also from the energetic neon aesthetics of the 1960s.
  2. The second trend is the continuing fashion for ethnic things, bright floral prints and patterns.
  3. The third trend, which also seems to be the most promising one, is the creation of bold and unfettered images in the military style or at least using such elements. Provoking images with elements of men’s clothes such as shirts and neckties, as well as borrowings from alternative youth cultures like heavy metal and punk (mainly chains and rivets).

But all this must combine with femininity, femininity and again femininity, the images of a cat-woman, an accentuated relief of the figure, with emphasis on waist, neck, wrists and hands, meaningful folds, drapes, metal and metallic fabrics, leather, fur and wool.

The must-haves of this season are:

  • belts, narrow and broad, with massive buckles or coquettish bows. They can be worn on top of dresses, coats, long pullovers, as well as skirts and trousers. Every designer feels it his or her duty to pay special attention to belts. Burberry Prorsum offered a broad corset belt, Avignon came up with a country-style leather belt, while Emanno Scervino focused on bright texture belts;
  • gloves are the hit of the season, especially long ones, smoothly turning into the arms of a short jacket. You can buy them from Marni, Burberry, Gucci, Maurizio Pecoraro, Versace and many others;
  • a small clutch bag is the most fashionable retro item. Mostly without handles, made of patent leather, metallic leather or crocodile skin, with rivets and chains, from Chanel, Burberry, Fendi, Hermes, Moshino, Blumarine, Bottega Veneta;
  • those who prefer bigger handbags will like soft bags from Belstaff, Celine, Christian Dior or bags with round handles designed by Emilio Pucci or Loewe. Strict suitcases are out of fashion. Instead, designers turn to rounded lines and unserious patterns, such as floral designs from Prada;
  • knit items will be very handy during this cold season, including voluminous scarves, ponchos, cardigans and especially berets, inevitable elements of the retro styles. Louis Vuitton, Versace, Lacoste, Sass & Bide, DKNY, Juicy Couture and other designers offer a variety of models;
  • no less popular are fur accessories: a cat-woman must be fluffy. Collars, cuffs, scarves and boleros are to be found with Adrienne Landau, Surell and others;
  • a good alternative to berets are hats (broad-brimmed hats from Juicy Couture and Eric Javits or more reserved hats from Marc Jacobs) or jockey caps (Dolce&Gabbana, Eugenia Kim, Juicy Couture, Helen Welsh). Wool or fur headbands are fashionable again (Dolce&Gabbana, Burberry and others);
  • and, finally, jewelry: necklaces, rings, earrings, all must be voluminous, large, bright and eye-catching. Pay particular attention to bracelets and brooches, as well as buttonholes and feathers. Among favorites are pearls, matching the glitter of other accessories. Large bracelets are offered by Chanel, Gucci, Lee Angel and Louis Vuitton, beautiful rings — by Marc Jacobs, CC Skye, John Galliano, Giorgio Armani and Stephen Webster, earrings — by Kenneth Jay Lane, Citrine by The Stones, splendid pearls – by Sonia Rykiel and Valentino, and first-class artificial pearls – by Majorica.

BUT: don’t wear too much jewelry, one or two bright items (for example, a large ring and a metal buckle on your belt) will be enough, standing out against the background of plain and monotone clothes, as fashion dictates. They will make your image unique and remembered.
